บทคัดย่อ

Burkholderia pseudomallei is a causative bacterial pathogen of melioidosis, which is found highly in tropical region like the Northeast of Thailand and has a high mortality rate. The symptoms vary, causing the difficulty in the clinical diagnosis by the doctors. Besides, no effective antibiotic is available to date, because B. pseudomallei contains a variety of virulence factors, allowing the bacteria to reside inside and outside of the human host cell, and spread to different organs. These virulence factors include capsule, quorum sensing, type III secretion system and flagella, for examples. Moreover, B. pseudomallei has developed antibiotic resistant, and has been reportedly used as bioweapon. This review article, therefore, presented details on morphology, pathogenesis, human host cell intracellular and extracellular
developmental cycle, host cell entry mechanism, and antibiotic resistance mechanisms. Together, the knowledges assist in disease recognition, treatment strategy, and so on.
