Application of Promoting Life Review for Clinical Nursing Practice: A Case Study of Cancer Patients Receiving Palliative Care

Abstract

          The promoting life review is a process that encourages people to recall positive life experiences, reconsider their past conflict, and reflect thinking of their past life. It is including to resolve the past conflict in their mind, modify their positive attitude, increase self-acceptance and self-esteem, cultivate spiritual well-being, and improve the quality of life. The promoting life review has been applied in caring for elderly persons, cancer patients, and palliative care patients. The promoting life review consisted of three steps;  1) building a relationship with a patient and reviewing contemporary life 2) reviewing past life and 3) summarizing the life review. This review can be conducted by a psychiatrists, nurses, or social workers. The promoting life review is nursing activities being an independent role for nursing who trained by an expert in this field. This article aimed to illustrate how to apply the promoting life review in clinical nursing practice in cancer patients receiving palliative care. Upon completing the promoting life review activities, it found that case studies’ self-esteem was increased.
