Prevalence and association factors of stress and mental health of healthcare provider in outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) At Muaklek hospital, Saraburi province

Introduction: Healthcare providers needed to take responsibility for increasing workloads during the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) in January 2022. This cross-sectional descriptive aimed to assess the prevalence and correlation of stress factors and mental health among a total of 185 healthcare providers from February to March 2022. Data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Fisher’s exact test, and Chi square test.
The results: revealed that 79.92% of healthcare providers were female. The average age was 37.35±10.48. No factors associated with stress were found. According to the result of the stress test questionnaire (ST-5), 72 healthcare providers (38.92%) had no stress (0 – 4 points); 83 healthcare providers (44.86%) were suspected of having stress (5-7 points); and 30 healthcare providers (16.22%) had high stress (8 points or higher) with a mean score of 4.84±2.8. The Thai Mental Health indicator-15(TMHI-15) revealed that 38 healthcare providers (20.54%) had better mental health than the general population (51 - 60 points). 104 healthcare providers (56.22%) had the same mental health as the general population (44 - 50 points). Tit was also found that 43 healthcare providers (23.24%) had lower mental health than the general population (43 points) with a mean score of 46.62±5.63.
Conclusion: In the outbreak of Covid-19, 16.22% and 23.24% of healthcare providers at Muaklek Hospital had stress and low mental health, respectively, than the general population.
