The Effectiveness of the operating coaching model on knowledge and practice of preventing coronavirus-19 infection in Chonburi Hospital

Introduction: Teaching operating room nursing as a coach is a key for the operation.
Methods: This one-group experimental research with a pre-post test design aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a coach teaching and learning model on knowledge and the operation for the prevention of coronavirus 2019 infection in the operating room. The samples consisted of 40 qualified operating room nurses obtained through simple random sampling and 120 patients undergoing surgery. The instruments included a questionnaire on knowledge of operating room nurses on preventive measures against coronavirus 2019 infection, a satisfaction questionnaire for operating room nurses, and a satisfaction questionnaire for patients with KR 20 and Cronbach’s Alpha confidence coefficients of .70, 87, .72 and .75, respectively. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Dependent t-test.
Results: The results showed that operating room nurses at Chonburi Hospital significantly had a higher level of overall knowledge and practice than before using the operation coaching model (t = -31.955, p < .001) and (t = -25.658, p < .001), respectively. The satisfactions of operating room nurses and patients were high, ( = 4.535, SD = .204) and ( = 8, SD = 0.95), respectively.
Conclusion: The coaching method increased operating room nurses’ knowledge and operation for the prevention of coronavirus infection. The results of the study will be useful for other departments or hospitals.
