Nursing of Kawasaki child patients with acute gastroenteritis: Case study

Kawasaki disease was almost found in the boy under 5 years old. This disease is the inflammation of the arteries. The inflammation can spread to the muscle layers of the blood vessels. This resulted in the complications of coronary artery. Child patients, 11 month of age, with the symptom of fever, watery diarrhea for 3 day and skin rashes was admitted to hospital on 30 September 2019. The patient was diagnosed as acute gastroenteritis with viral examthem. After that, Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) were found in the patient. Thus, the patient was also diagnosed as Kawasaki disease. The patient was received Intravenous immune globulin (IVIG), and aspirin and then the patient was detected by echocardiogram. The patient’s echocardiogram was normal. During nursing care, the patient cared by nursing fever-reduction, reducing infection in the body, reducing discomfort from rash, prevent the electrolyte depletion. Moreover, caretakers received the information and suggestion for nursing the patient and reducing the anxiety. The patient recovered and then discharged on 8th October 2019. From follow up, the CPR of patient show normal value. The abnormality of the coronary artery was not found. The role of nurse for nursing care the Kawasaki patient is the preventing the abnormality of the coronary artery with IVIG and ASA drugs and knowing the drug side effects. The observation of the myocardial ischemia and the increasing platelets abnormality together with the comfort care for patients resulted in safe child patient and no complications later.
