Patient safety culture as perceived by registered nurses at Khok Samrong hospital, Lop Buri province.

Abstract

This research was cross-sectional surveyed research. The purpose of this research was to study the patient safety culture as perceived by professional nurses working in 8 wards in the Khok Samrong Hospital. The sample were 63 registered nurses. Data collection 1 to 30 September 2018. The instruments used in this study were questionnaires which consisted of demographic data and perception of safety culture and the reliability was 0.82. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and then safety culture perception of nursing personnel compared using analysis of variance.

Results showed that 27.0% who has been working in the current hospital 16-20 years and with a working time of 40-59 hours per week (50.9%). All 12 aspect mean score of patient safety culture was at a medium level ( = 3.27, S.D. = 0.25). Comparing the differences in perception levels, patient safety culture, and classification by wards with one-way analysis of variance, found that there was difference statistical significance. (p <.05) In conclusion, staffing and frequency of events reported is what effects of the perception of other patient safety cultures. Therefore, nurse administrators should 1st priority which should help registered nurse to be happy by having the suit working hours and the patient is safe from corrections due to increased reporting of events.
