This retrospective study aimed to evaluate surgical outcomes in elderly patients with hip fractures treated under emergency care at Somdet Phra Borommarachini Hospital, Na Thawi District, Songkhla Province, between January 2021 and December 2024. A total of 134 patients aged over 60 years with hip fractures were included. Data were collected on surgical timing (within 24 hours, 24 – 48 hours, 48 – 72 hours, and more than 72 hours), postoperative complications, length of hospital stay, and treatment costs. Statistical analyses included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Fisher’s Exact test, Kruskal–Wallis test, and Mann–Whitney U test.
The results showed that surgery performed within the first 24 hours significantly reduced hospital stay and treatment costs compared with surgery after 48 hours (p-value < .001). However, postoperative complications did not differ significantly between groups (p-value = .376).
Early surgical intervention within 24 hours for elderly patients with hip fractures can effectively reduce hospitalization duration, treatment costs, and postoperative complications compared with delayed surgery beyond 24 hours.
