Using the Teach-Back Method and Pictogram with Cultural Sensitivity: an Approach for Enhancing Health Literacy among Gestational Diabetes Patients

Abstract

Nowadays, prevalence rate of gestational diabetes is an increasing trend among women, in particular those from a multicultural background affecting them women to understand and to take advantage from health education. There were evidence based practices demonstrated that teach back and pictogram with cultural sensitivity was benefit for improving the health literacy to change their health behaviors and self-managements. This article aimed to describe a certain approach in health promotion, using the teach-back method and pictogram concerning with a cultural sensitivity dimension, including guideline for health assessment, strategies of teach back, and example of pictograms, which are efficient for improving health literacy among gestational women with diabetes.
