The Application of Information Motivation and Behavioral Skills Model on Medication Adherence of Diabetes Patients, Photharam Hospital, Ratchaburi Province*

Abstract

The quasi-experimental research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of information
motivation and behavioral skills model applied on medication adherence of diabetes patients at
Photharam Hospital, Ratchaburi Province. The samples were diabetes patients 60 cases, with 30
cases each in the experimental and the comparison groups. The experimental group participated
in the application of Information Motivation and Behavioral Skills Model on medication adherence
of diabetes patients program while the comparison group received a regular program from public
health personnel. Data collection was done by interview. Data were analyzed by using frequency,
percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, Paired sample̕ s t-test and Independent sample̕
s t-test.
The research results showed that after the experiment, significantly higher levels of the
variables were found among the experimental group than the comparison group (P-value<0.05)
knowledge about anti diabetic drug, perceived self-efficacy regarding medicine, outcome
expectations from regularly taking medicine, behavioral skills on medication adherence and the
better control of blood glucose level. The results of the study suggest that the health education
program for help patients control blood glucose level to nearly or normal range should be
emphasized on information perceived self-efficacy and outcome expectations.
