Development of Health Sufficiency Promotion Program with Muslim Ways of Living of Uncontrolled Diabetes Mellitus in Muslims

Abstract

This research aims to describe the development process of Health Sufficiency Promotion Program with Muslim Ways of Living of Uncontrolled Diabetes in Muslims. Program development based on PDCA guidelines. The program was develop on the concept Sufficiency Economy and Islamic doctrines. Two phases were conducted: (1) The development phase of the program components and 2) the qualified phase. The newly developed program was examined for content validity by three experts and was tested for its applicability by five nurses on 20 Muslims with uncontrolled diabetes.
The result revealed that the components of the Health Sufficiency Promotion Program comprised four components: 1) the flow chart of Health Sufficiency Promotion Program, 2) the handbook of Diabetes in Muslim is user-friendly, practical and clear based on Health Sufficiency and Islamic ways, 3) the lesson plan entitled Diabetes in Muslims can be controlled based on Health Sufficiency and Islamic ways, and 4) Diabetes control records based on Health Sufficiency and Islamic ways. The content validity of the program was examined by the consistency between the questions and the objective yielding a value was 0.89. The program consisted of precise academic content and easily understandable steps. The experts provide additional suggestions on using easy language and symbols for recording purposes. The applicability test found that the program contained of a precise academic content based on diabetes national guideline and appropriate with Muslim context. The design of the handbook is interesting and understandable and the font size was favorable. Assessing the feasibility of implementing the program showed that the program was easy to use and suitable for context and resulted in an increase in the mean score of control behavior.
Therefore, the program can be used to guide nursing professionals and other stakeholders in enhancing diabetic control behavior of uncontrolled diabetes in Muslims.
