EFFECTS OF THE PROCESS OF DEVELOPING PROFESSIONAL NURSES' POTENTIAL ON THE PREPARATION OF HUSBANDS AND RELATIVES FOR GIVING BIRTH, HEALTH PROMOTION HOSPITAL, HEALTH CENTER 1, CHIANG MAI
Abstract
The effects of the development process of professional nurses' competency on the preparation of husbands and relatives for maternity care at Health Promotion Hospital, Health Center 1, Chiang Mai
Pregnancy and childbirth are experiences that leave mothers with fear, anxiety, and pain. Encouraging husbands or relatives to participate in childbirth is an activity that helps mothers lessen their fears and create a good experience for pregnancy and childbirth. This quasi-experimental study aimed to study the effect of the registered nurse competency development process on the preparation of husbands and relatives for childbirth. Data had collected from July – August 2020. The sample group consisted of the first group, a population of 7 registered nurses working in the delivery room and 12 registered nurses who had to rotate to work in the delivery room every 6 months, totaling 19 people. The second group, pregnant women and their husbands or relatives who received antenatal care at Chiang Mai Health Promotion Hospital, and passed the parents' school 2 times and participated in the project to prepare the husband and relatives for childbirth, totaling 24 people. The research instrument was a lesson plan for the participation of husbands or relatives in maternity care. Data Collection Tools are 4 questionnaires and data were analyzed with Descriptive statistics and Paired samples t-Test statistics The results showed that the nurses' knowledge and teaching ability scores after participating in the procedure were higher than before (P < .001). Scores of perceptions and confidence in maternity care after the
husband or relatives participated in the procedure were higher than before (P < .001). It has been shown that the process in this study can develop the competence of registered nurses and enhance the confidence of husbands and relatives in maternity care. This process should be used to effectively care for mothers during the delivery period.
