This descriptive study aimed to study risk perceptions of air pollution and other factor affecting self-care behaviors among chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients in Mae Cheam District, Chiang Mai Province. Forty-eight subjects were purposively sampled. The research tool was an interview questionnaire. Most of participants were male and average age was 59 years. Average duration of having COPD was 6.8 years. Risk perception on ambient air pollution among participants was at a highest level while risk perception on indoor air pollution from wood burning for cooking was at a lowest level. Regarding prevention behaviors, preventing of exacerbation stimulants and living in the area with good ventilation were at highest level while immediately taking bronchodilators when having exacerbation was at low level. Fifty two percent of subjects had self-care behavior in good level. In addition, it was found that scores of risk perception and behavior were significantly correlated with marital status, income sufficiency and distance between house and hospital with p-value at 0.003, 0.046 and 0.004, respectively.
