Factors affecting glycemic control behaviors among non-insulin dependent diabetic patients in Nong-Meunchai district hostpital, Thungsaliam district, Sukhothai Province.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a major health problem of Thai people, affecting quality of life in physical, mental, social and economic aspects. Nowadays, there are still diabetes patients, who are inability to control blood sugar due to lack of knowledge and understanding of self-care. This cross sectional analysis research aimed to study factors affecting glycemic control behaviors among non-insulin dependent diabetic patients in Nong-Meunchai district hospital.100 participants were selected by using simple random sampling. Data were collected by questionnaires which developed by the researcher, validated for IOC by 3 experts, reliability =0.84, analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard division, Pearson Product Moment Correlation and multiple regression(enter).

            The results revealed that the factors related to glycemic control behaviors among non-insulin dependent diabetic patients significantly at 0.05 were social support in terms of acceptance(r=0.175, p-value=0.04), social support in terms of participation(r=0.483, p-value<0.001), social support in terms of financial(r=0.291, p-value=0.002), social support in terms of information(r=0.229, p-value<0.01), self-efficacy in practice(r=0.465, p-value<0.001) and perceiving outcome in practice(r=0.604, p-value<0.001) and found that factors affecting the glycemic control behaviors among diabetic patients significantly at the 0.05 level were social support in terms of emotion support, social support in terms of acceptance, social support in terms of participation, self-efficacy in practice, perceived outcome expectations of practice and social support in terms of financial, which could predict glycemic control behaviors among non-insulin independent diabetic mellitus patients for 66.0% (R2=0.660, Adj. R2=0.660, F=25.84, Sig. <0.001).
