Abstract

This mixed method research aimed to develop a causal relationship of mentoring student nurses’ delivery training process using theory-based
evaluation and validate the causal model. The research was divided into 2 stages: In stage I, developed the indicators and causal model of mentoring student nurses’ delivery training process by content analysis from literature reviews and interviews with 16 student nurses and developed to questionnaires. The content validity of instrument were 0.67 - 1.00 and the reliability coefficients were .87 - .92. In Stage II, validated the causal model with 621 student nurses from 8 groups of Thai nursing institutes. The data were analyzed with factor analysis and structural equation model. The major findings included: 1) The basic mentoring process’ indicators consisted of 3 factors with 15 items and the causal indicated the relationship among mentoring process, self-efficacy and student’ nurses delivery skill. 2) The causal model fitted the empirical data as evidenced by acceptable fit indices. (Chi-square= 327.56, df= 127, p= 0.00000, CFI= 0.98, GFI= 0.90, AGFI= 0.86, SRMR= 0.049 and RMSEA=0.070).
