Quality of Life of Hemodialysis Patients

Abstract
AbstractThe objective of this study is to study the quality of life of patientsundergoing hemodialysis. The quality of life is defined as sense of happiness, lifesatisfaction, which comes from being fulfilled in personal needs including beinghealthy in mind, body, emotion, and social life. There are many quality of lifeassessments for example 1) generic quality of life assessment such as Zhanquestionnaire, World Health Organization quality of life and short formquestionnaire and 2) quality of life for patients with kidney disease such as kidneydisease quality of life short form questionnaire and questionnaire for quality oflife in patients with chronic kidney disease. From reviewing of literature, we foundthat most of hemodialysis patients have quality of life in a moderate level.However, when compared with general population, caregivers, and post-kidneytransplantation patients, we found that the hemodialysis patient have low-levelquality of life. Therefore, nurses should use specific disease questionnaire toassess quality of life in hemodialysis patients in order to help those patients withlow-level quality of life.
