Factors Relating to Registered Nurses’ Quality of Work-Life in a Private Hospital

Abstract
This descriptive cross-sectional study investigated factors relating to registered nurse’ quality of work-life in a private hospital. The sample consisted of 182 registered nurses who have been working for more than 1 year. Data were collected by questionnaire whose content validity was examined from 3 experts. Besides, the reliability values were determined by considering Cronbach's alpha coefficients. The reliability of the working environment was .713 and the reliability of quality of work-life was .947. The statistics used for data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square statistics and Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient.
The results of the research indicated that the sample’s opinions regarding the overall working environment of registered nurse in a private hospital was at a moderate level ( = 2.72, S.D = .87). The sample had a high level of opinions regarding the overall quality of working life ( = 3.84, S.D = .63) of registered nurse in a private hospital. Personal factor in term of education level was related to overall quality of work-life. Work environment factors did not correlate with the overall quality of work-life but related to quality of work-life in terms of fair and enough compensation and development of human capabilities. Research findings recommended the administrator’s policy for managing the appropriated workforce of registered nurses, clearly determining a scheduled day off, approving vacation leave, and rotating work function among registered nurses for reducing stress. Lastly, in terms of compensation, additional welfare should be provided for personnel to earn enough income for their lifestyles.
