Osteoarthritis is a common problem in the elderly which has an impact on health and lifestyle. This quasi-experimental research aimed to compare the degree of knee pain, walking ability, and joint mobility in elderly patients with osteoarthritis of the herbal knee wrap and promote self-care. Twenty-four participants recruited by using purposive sampling. Following the clinical trial at five days and two weeks, the participants who received a herbal knee mask to promote self-care were checked performs. The instrumental included the face rating scale, walking ability test (TUGT), and knee range of motion measurement tool (Goniometer), using one-way repeated measure ANOVA.
The pre-trail mean post-test pain level (Mean = 7.04, S.D = 0.45) was significantly reduced (p.05), as were after five days (Mean= 3.08, S.D.= 0.53) and two weeks (Mean= 1.79, S.D.= 0.43) while the mean post-test range of left knee motion increased statistically significance (p<.05) compared to the mean pre-trails. However, the mean range of left knee motion and right knee after the experiment at pre-trail, after five days, and two weeks had not statically significant differences (p<.05). Although the mean score of walking ability after trail (Mean = 15.96, S.D = 0.75), after five days (Mean = 11.97, S.D = 0.46), and two weeks (Mean = 10.96, S.D = 0.32) was statistically decreases (p<.05), the mean score between five days and two weeks of trail had no statically significant (p<.05). This notices that promoting self-care in elderly patients with osteoarthritis using alternative medicine was self-reliant in promoting better quality of life.
