Nursing Care of Patients with Amputation
Main Article Content
Abstract
ABSTACT
Amputation is the surgical removal of an arm/leg part. There are two types of amputation, including: 1) closed arms or legs and 2) open arms or legs. The most common causes of amputation are decreased peripheral blood circulation, infection, traumatic amputation, and cancer. Amputation can have both physiological and psychological effects on patients. Therefore, nurses should prepare the patients preoperatively by explaining physical conditions before surgery and explaining treatment plans and postoperative management. During the postoperative period, the aims of nursing care are pain management and stump care. The goal is to promote the quality of life for these patients.
