Introduction: Before midwifery practice training, nursing students often feel fearful and anxious. Preparation before the actual training session helps alleviate these feelings and enhance students' confidence.
Research objective: To examine the effect of Simulation - based learning for preparation on knowledge and enhancement of confidence in nursing care during the first stage of labor among the nursing students.
Research methodology: This quasi – experimental study was conducted with a group of 58 nursing students in the 3rd year of the Bachelor of Nursing Program at Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Bangkok. The control group, consisting of 29 nursing students, used the traditional method, while the experimental group of 29 nursing students used Simulation - based learning. The research instrument utilized a learning model employing Simulation-based learning to prepare for nursing care in the first stage of labor. Data were collected on students’ knowledge and confidence in nursing care during the first stage of labor and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The comparison was conducted using the Chi -Square Test, Fisher exact probability test, and t - test.
Results: The result showed that after using Simulation-based learning, the experimental group had significantly higher mean score of knowledge and confidence in nursing care than those in the control group at a level of p < .001 (t = 3.62, t = 3.77, respectively)
Conclusions: Preparation of students before nursing practice with Simulation-based learning will help them gain more knowledge and confidence in nursing students while caring for mothers in their first stage of labor.
Implications: The research findings can be used as baseline information to create a instructional learning model that could enhance students' nursing skills in providing efficient care to clients.
