Introduction: Health-promoting behavior during postpartum period is important for adolescent mothers. Healthy behavior results in good health among adolescent mothers.
Research objectives: The purpose of this descriptive correlation study was to explore the relationships among perceived ease of use and benefits of using website, social networks regarding health-promoting behavior, and adolescent mothers’ health-promoting behavior.
Research methodology: Participants were 102 adolescent mothers aged 13-19 years. They were recruited during 6th – 8th weeks of their post-partum period. All participants had accessed health services at the Gynecology Family Planning clinic, and brought their babies for vaccination at the Well Baby clinic in Hatyai Hospital, and Songkhla Hospital between August to September 2020. A questionnaire assessed 3 dimensions as the following. Health-promoting behavior, developed by Juadnapa Sangsawang and colleagues, was guided by Pender’s Health Promotion Theory. Perceived ease of use, and perceived usefulness through website and social networks in health promotion were guided by Davis’s Theory. Descriptive statistics, and Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient were used to analyze data.
Results: 1. The majority (95.10%) of adolescent mothers had a high level of health-promoting behavior with a total mean score of 174.30 (SD = 14.38). 2. The majority (96.10%) of adolescent mothers had a high level of perceived ease of internet use through website and social networks in health-promoting behaviors with a total mean score of 23.91 (SD = 2.33). 3. The majority (97.10%) of adolescent mothers had a high level of perceived benefits of internet use through website and social networks in health-promoting behaviors with a total mean score of 24 (SD = 1.98). 4. Perceived ease of use, and perceived usefulness of internet use through website and social networks in health-promoting behaviors positively significantly associated with health-promoting behavior among adolescent mothers (r = .594, r = .645, p < .01, respectively).
Conclusions: Findings from this study can be used as empirical data to promote healthy behavior among adolescent mothers and for further study to promote healthy behavior for adolescent mothers.
Implications: Other factors related to health-promoting behavior among adolescent mothers should be investigated.
