Factors Associated with Motorcycle Riding Accident Prevention Behaviors among Students in the Science and Technology, Mahasarakham University

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate accident prevention behaviors in motorcycle riding among students in the Science and Technology group at Mahasarakham University. The sample consisted of 373 students selected from the total population. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, and inferential statistics, including the Chi-Square Test with a significance level of .05, and Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient with a significance level of .01.

The results showed that most of the participants were female (246 students,66.0%) and the majority were aged 20 years and above (232 students, 62.5%). The three faculties with the highest numbers of participants were the Faculty of Informatics (90 students, 24.1%), the Faculty of Engineering (70 students, 18.8%), and the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies (62 students each, 16.6%). Most participants were first-year students (101 students, 27.1%), with an average monthly income ranging from 4,001 to 6,000 Baht (225 students, 60.3%). Additionally, most had a motorcycle driving license (233 students, 62.5%) and had previous experience with road accidents (219 students, 58.7%). The findings indicated that the majority of students demonstrated good levels of accident prevention behaviors. Their levels of knowledge, attitudes, access to accident prevention information, and social support were also found to be good. The analysis further revealed that gender was significantly associated with accident prevention behaviors at the .05 level. Moreover, knowledge, attitudes, access to accident prevention information, and social support were significantly associated with accident prevention behaviors at the .01 level.
