The Evolution of Intelligence from IoT to AIoT
Keywords:
IoT, AIoT, smart home, smart farm, smart healthAbstract
This article aims to present the evolution of Internet of Things: IoT technology into the Artificial Intelligence of Things: AIoT. AIoT represents the integration of Artificial Intelligence: AI into IoT operations, fundamentally driving the creation of intelligent systems. The author posits that AIoT signifies a conceptual framework for the transition of IoT toward operations with enhanced learning and smarter decision-making capabilities. The content covers the history and development of both IoT and AIoT concepts, illustrating their technological continuity. Furthermore, the article introduces the architecture of AIoT systems, categorized by a Layered Architecture—from data acquisition up to analysis and processing. The essential components of the AIoT system are clearly identified, as they are crucial for platform functionality. Practical applications of AIoT in daily life are also included, such as Smart Homes, Smart Farms, and Smart Health. Therefore, this article focuses on providing academic insights into the conceptual framework and potential of AIoT in driving the next generation of innovation. In terms of technological development, AIoT represents a significant evolution in functional capabilities, marking a paradigm shift from being a mere intermediary for data transmission to becoming a system capable of intelligent decision-making. The layered architecture of AIoT-extending from the perception layer to the application layer-plays a critical role in enhancing processing efficiency. In particular, the integration of edge computing significantly reduces system latency by 30% to 50%, thereby enabling high precision in real-time operations.
