Abstract

The aim of this predictive research was to study risk factors affecting complications among patients with type 2 diabetes in Mueang District, Phitsanulok Province. The samples, with systematic random sampling, included 330 patients with type 2 diabetes at age 35 years and above. Data were collected by using questionnaire, with a reliability of 0.84, analyzed by using descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression analysis, was found at significant level of 0.05. The results revealed that 53.5% of knowledge had medium levels, 63.6% of the social support had medium levels and 74.8% of self-care behaviors had medium levels. Among patients were duration of illness 20 - 30 years risk of complications more than duration of illness 5 – 10 years to 5.887 times (OR = 5.887, P-value = 0.007), followed by Among patients were fasting blood sugar level > 126 mmHg risk of complications more than fasting blood sugar level 100 - 125 mmHg to 5.356 times (OR = 5.356, P-value = 0.001) and Among patients were knowledge had low levels risk of complications more than knowledge had high levels to 0.037 times (OR = 0.037, P-value = <0.001) , respectively. These variables can predict complications among patients with type 2 diabetes at 37.1% with the significant level of 0.05.
