Seven-Color Balls Application in Non-Communicable Diseases: A Scoping Review
Main Article Content
Abstract
This scoping review aimed to collect data on using the 7-color ball in chronic non-communicable disease surveillance regarding the purposes of use, nature of use, and its results. Data from 2012-2022 were searched from ThaiJo, Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and CINHAL databases. Twenty-two included studies were finally reviewed for full-text articles. Most of which were experimental studies. The subjects were healthy or at risk for hypertension/diabetes persons, followed by patients with diabetes/high blood pressure. The main research objectives were aimed at developing care guidelines/studying the effectiveness of care guidelines for hypertension and diabetes patients. There are three characteristics of using the 7-color ball: 1) used as a screening tool and classifying patients, 2) used as part of a program or media to educate people on health, and 3) used as a guideline for policy formulation. Therefore, it was suggested that the 7-color ball should be developed to be effective so that it can be used to screen patients with diabetes and hypertension. In addition, research is still needed to develop the 7-color ball for screening other chronic diseases, such as chronic renal disease or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
