Abstract

This interrupted time series design with a comparison group aimed to examine the effect of continuing care programs on the self-efficacy of caregivers with mild brain injury at Phrae Hospital. The total 40 primary caregivers of patients were recruited with mild traumatic brain injury who were diagnosed with moderate and high risk at Phrae Hospital. The sample were divided into experimental and control groups, 20 people each group. Research tools consisted of: 1) Continuing Care Program 2) Video clip 3) manual of Care on Caregivers of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury 4) the self-efficacy assessment form for caring for patients with mild traumatic brain injury. The research tool were tested by five experts (CVI = 1), reliability (α = 9.2) and descriptive statistic were used Wilcoxon and Friedman respectively.

The research results found that caregivers in the experimental group had higher mean self-efficacy score compared to before receiving the continuing care program in weeks one, four, and six with statistical significant and caregivers in the experimental group had a significantly higher mean self-efficacy score than the control group in weeks one, four, and six. In addition, a continuing care program can increase caregivers' self-efficacy after discharge in weeks one, four, and six. Therefore, the healthcare team can apply a continuing care program to care patients with mild brain injuries to improve the quality of nursing care.
