Knowledge and Health Literacy on Health Communication Skills regarding COVID-19among nursing students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, Praboromarajchanok Institute in Health Region 1

Abstract

This descriptive research aimed at assessing the level of knowledge, health literacy and health communication skills as well as to compare health communication skills regarding COVID-19 of the first to fourth year nursing students who had the difference of class level, knowledge and health literacy regarding COVID-19.  Quota sampling was used to recruit 719 nursing students who enrolled in first semester, academic year 2022 from four Boromarajonani College of Nursing located in Health Region 1. Research instruments consists of a knowledge test about COVID-19 with dichotomous scale, health literacy test, and a health communication skills test regarding COVID-19 with a 5-point rating scale. It reliability was valued at .87, .91, and .89 respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation as well as reference statistics, One-way ANOVA was used to test difference between factors.


 Research findings can be summarized as follows.


1. Their knowledge and health communication skills regarding COVID-19 was at moderate level.


2. Health literacy regarding COVID-19 of the first to fourth year nursing students was at good level.


3. Students in the different year had a significant difference of health communication skills about COVID-19 (p-value <.05).


4. Students with the difference of COVID-19 knowledge had a significant difference of health communication skills about COVID-19 (p-value <.05).


5. Students with the difference of health literacy regarding COVID-19 had a significant difference of communication skills about COVID-19 (p-value <.05).
