Main Article Content
Abstract
Happiness and psychological well-being are factors which indicates a person's abilities to live with a quality of life. This descriptive research aimed to study happiness and psychological well-being among organic durian farmers in the eastern region. 83 participants were organic durian farmers from 6 provinces of the eastern region including Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Prachinburi, and Nakhon Nayok. The research instruments included questionnaires for demographic data, Thai Happiness Indicators (THI-15), and the Scale of Psychological Well-being. Data collected were analyzed with T-test and One-way ANOVA. The results revealed that the most participants resided in Rayong province (32.53 %), male (66.27%), and their average age was of 55.28 years (±9.73). For psychological well-being, the participants had overall psychological well-being at a high level (mean = 4.65, SD = .52), and their overall Thai happiness index was categorized happier than the general population (mean =35.93, SD = 5.56). Comparison between two groups of age, 40 – 54 years and 55 – 75 years, it was found that their overall scores of psychological well-being and Thai happiness index were not different. The comparison between three certified garden groups, the GAP, PGS, and Organic groups, it was found that their overall scores of psychological well-being were not different. However, when considering each of the six sub-components, it was found that the components of life goals were significantly different at .05 level; the Organic farming group had higher score than that of GAP group. However, the Thai happiness indexes among three groups were not different. In conclusion, durian farmers with the certified garden standards had a higher happiness score than the general Thai people. They also had a high level of psychological well-being. Therefore, all stakeholders of durian plantation should be enhanced to expand the area and encourage durian farmers to make more organic durian plantations
