Health Literacy and Health Behaviors among Village Health Volunteers, Faktha District, Uttaradit Province

Abstract
The descriptive research was to examine a health literacy and health behavior, and to determine the relationship between health literacy and health behaviors among Village Health Volunteers in Faktha District, Uttaradit Province. The samples of this study were calculated by using Taro Yamane formular. Stratified random sampling was used for recruiting a sample. A total 188 Village Health Volunteers in Faktha District, Uttaradit Province were invited. A questionnaire was divided into three parts which included general information, health literacy and health behaviors. The descriptive statistic was used for analyzing the general data; percentage, mean, standard deviation and Pearson’s product moment correlation were used for analyzing the relationship between health literacy and health behaviors.
The results of the study showed that most Village Health Volunteers had good level of health literacy of 54.80 percent, and excellent level of 45.20 percent and health behaviors was excellent of 59 percent and good level of 29.30 percent. The results of the relationship between health literacy and health behavior, revealed that health literacy had a positive relationship with a significant at .01 (r=.337). This result can apply to develop the potential of Village Health Volunteers to be a local doctor, which may lead to the community healthy society and reduce the problem of chronic non-communicable diseases.
