Factors Influencing Antibiotics Use of Nursing Students to Sore Throat, Clean Wound and Diarrhea
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aims to study the knowledge of the antibiotic use and factors influencing the antibiotics used behaviors to sore throat, clean wound and diarrhea of the nursing students. The samples are 98 nursing students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Uttaradit calculating by G power program and using stratified random sampling. The research instrument is a questionnaire which was tested for the Index of Consistency of .94 and the Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient for reliability of .80. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the multiple regressions for predicting factors influenced the antibiotics used behaviors. The results revealed that, Firstly, most of the samples were female (90.82 %), the age between 21-31 years old (53.06 %), first year students (30.61 %), and no underlying diseases (94.90%). Most of them (59.95 %) had the antibiotics used history within the last one year that they bought from the retail or pharmacy stores without the prescription (77.55 %). Secondly, the knowledge about antibiotics usage was shown at the moderate levels (46.94 %) while the behaviors of antibiotics usage were at the levels of very good ( X = 3.39, SD = .87). Finally, the knowledge of antibiotics usages and the class levels were statistically significant factors explaining the antibiotics used behaviors about 16 percents. The knowledge of antibiotics usages could most explain those behaviors (Beta = .047, t = 2.527, p-value = .013) and follow by the class levels (Beta = .117, t = 2.335, p-value = .022).
Findings suggest that nursing students should be encouraged the proper antibiotic used behaviors by improving learning and teaching strategies to enhance the rational drug used knowledge and behaviors in further programs or courses.
