Stretching Exercises for Preventing Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders

Abstract

          Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) constitute a major problem in many countries, and also in Thailand, by impairing quality of life and increasing work limitations of a large proportion of the adult population. Regular exercise has been shown to be beneficial in preventing musculoskeletal disorders. Stretching is a way to do exercise that can be done quickly and easily both at work and at home. This kind of exercise has also been proposed as therapy to improve muscle strength, reduce muscle pain, and prevent musculoskeletal disorders. This article reviews a stretching exercise program, targeting each musculoskeletal areas, and the Maneevej exercise technique that can be used to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders.
