Decision Making to Participate in the Elderly Club’s Activities and Needs for the Elderly Club’s Activities among Elders in Phitsanulok Municipality

Abstract

          This is a comparative Analytical research. The purposes of the study were to compare selected factors, including: knowledge about the elderly club, attitudes toward the elderly club, and social support, related to decision making to participate in the elderly club’s activities and needs for the elderly club’s activities of elders in Phitsanulok Municipality. The samples included 300 elderly persons. Data were collected by using the questionnaire: knowledge about the elderly club, attitudes toward the elderly club, social support, and needs for the elderly club’s activities. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and independent t-test. The results showed that: (1) The elderly persons who were members of the elderly club had significantly higher knowledge about the elderly club scores than those who were not members of the elderly club (p<.001). There were not different for attitudes toward the elderly club and social support from family members and friends between those who were member and not members of the elderly club. (2) The samples who were members of the elderly club had significantly higher overall service needs than those who were not members of the elderly club (p<.001). When considered in each dimension, the results showed that all dimensions of service needs among elderly club’s members were significantly higher than those in the non-elderly club’s members. It could be ordered from high to minimum as follow: activities to promote critical skills, activities to promote social skills, activities to promote mental health, and activities to promote physical health, respectively.
