The Promoting Self-Efficacy Model on Breast Feeding Behavior among Adolescent Mothers in Skipped-generation Household

Abstract

          This research and development aimed to develop the promoting self-efficacy model on breast feeding behavior among adolescent mothers in skipped-generation household. The key informants in the model development consisted of six postpartum adolescent mothers and relatives in the skipped-generation household and five experts on research development. A total sample in the model experiment were 48 adolescent mothers that were divided into experimental and control groups into 24 for each group. All the qualitative data were lessons learnt among eight stakeholders.


          The results showed that the promoting self-Efficacy model on breastfeeding behavior among postpartum adolescent mothers in skipped-generation household promoted confidence in breastfeeding when adolescent mothers and families accept the presence of a new family member. This model proceed on online platforms. The method were as follows: 1) Assess the readiness of physical, mental and intention. 2) Share experiences and show clips of celebrities or famous people that adolescent mothers favor whose success in breastfeeding 3) Advise continuously through YouTube and LINE application, delivered gifts and compliments by giving messages or stickers 4) Be a consultant and have online contact with family and adolescent mothers individually 5) Follow up during the 1-2 weeks, focusing on exchanging experiences, encouraging adolescent mothers and skipped-generation household. Furthermore, at 12 weeks postpartum focus on child developments and changes. After the experiment The Promoting Self-Efficacy Model was found included: The experimental group had average scores of knowledges, perceived self-efficacy and breastfeeding behavior of adolescent mothers were higher than before the study statistically significant at the .05 level (p<.001).


          The results of this research show the efficacy of the promoting self-efficacy model enable adolescent mothers to be able to breastfeed continuously and extensively.
