Teaching Model of Nursing to Enhance the Health Promoting Competencies of Student Nurses.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop the teaching model of nursing to enhance the health promoting competencies of student nurses. The study comprised of 2 steps which were to 1) examine current condition of the teaching model to enhance the health promoting competencies of student nurses and examined experts’ views on the appropriateness of this teaching model to enhance the health promoting competencies of student nurses, and 2) construct and inspect the teaching model quality by three experts as well as supplementary learning material quality. Samples were three health promoting teaching experts, 18 nurse instructors and 294 student nurses in the academic year of 2016. Data were obtained using questionnaires, focus group and in-depth interview. The results showed that 1) the current condition of the teaching model to enhance the health promoting competencies of student nurses was health promotion was separated from others to be one single subject, Health Promotion subject, taught in second year together with only one nursing subject, principle of nursing, therefore, the students were unable to apply health promotion concepts into any other nursing subjects in the following year and learning process to enhance the health promotion competencies should employ integrated learning process was suggested, 2) the teaching model of nursing to enhance the health promoting competencies of student nurses consisted of essential process which were (1) principles, (2) objectives, (3) contents, (4) instructional processes, and (5) measurements and evaluations by integrating the health promotion concepts into 19 nursing theory and practicum subjects in the nursing curriculum 2017 revised version. The results of quality investigation by experts found that the developed teaching model was appropriate at the high level.
