This quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design study aimed to investigate the effects of an empowerment program on self-regulation behavior for drug withdrawal among amphetamine-addicted patients at Surin Hospital. The study sample comprised 51 inpatients with amphetamine addiction, selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument was the empowerment program, consisting of 10 activities. The data collection tools included a self-regulation behavior questionnaire. Content validity indices of the program activities ranged between .80 and 1.00. Reliability of the self-regulation behavior assessment for drug withdrawal showed a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of .96. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test.
The results indicated that, after participation in the program, amphetamine-addicted patients demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in self-regulation behavior for drug withdrawal (Z = -6.216, p-value < 0.001).
The results of this study demonstrate that this program can enhance self-regulation behavior for drug withdrawal among amphetamine-addicted patients. Therefore, it is recommended for implementation in inpatient wards.
