This two-group pretest posttest experimental study aimed to examine the effects of a resilience enhancement program on game addiction behaviors among early adolescents. The sample consisted of 26 adolescents aged 13 - 15 years, both males and females, who were studying in secondary education institutions in Chiang Mai province. They were divided into an experimental and a control group (13 participants / group). The research instruments were a personal data questionnaire, as well as a gaming addiction test and an assessment of psychological resilience in children, yielding respectively Cronbach's alpha coefficients of .90 and .85. The experimental instrument was a resilience enhancement program for gaming addiction behavior, based on Gothberg's (1995) concept. It consisted of 6 therapy sessions of 60-90 minutes, with activities conducted twice a week. The program was reviewed by 6 experts and received a content validity index of .97. Data were analyzed using inferential statistics, including the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and the Mann–Whitney U test. The result showed as follows.
1. Gaming addiction scores among early adolescents significantly decreased after participating in the resilience enhancement program for one month, compared to before the program (p-value < .05).
2. Gaming addiction scores among the group that received the resilience enhancement program were significantly lower than those in the control group after one month (p-value < .05).
Therefore, this resilience enhancement program on game addiction behavior can be used to reduce game-addicted behaviors in early adolescence.
