Abstract

This quasi-experimental study aimed to evaluate the effect of self-efficacy enhancement program on self-confidence and rehabilitation behavior among femoral fracture patients undergoing internal fixation surgery. The subjects were 32 patients of femoral fracture undergoing internal fixation surgery who met the research inclusion criteria. They were divided into the experimental group and the control group, 16 participants/group. The experimental group participated in a 4-weeks program, The program was developed based on Bandura's Self-Efficacy Theory (1997). The control group received routine nursing care. Data was collected using a questionnaire. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistic, Chi-square test, Dependent t-test and independent t-test. The result showed that:

1. After the trial, the experimental group and control group had higher mean score of self-confidence and rehabilitation behavior than before the trial with statistical significance (Paired t=-5.50, p<.01; Paired t=-4.84, p<.01 respectively)

2. After the trial, the experimental group had higher mean score of self-confidence and rehabilitation behavior than the control group with statistical significance (t=2.76, p<.01; t=3.09, p<.01 respectively)

The finding of this study indicates the effectiveness of the self-efficacy enhancement program in promote self-confidence and rehabilitation behavior among femoral fracture patients undergoing internal fixation surgery
