A Correlation between Head Nurses' Perspective in Business and Marketing, and Nursing Management Quality in Regional and General Public Hospitals, Health Region 2

Abstract

This correlational survey research among head nurses practicing in Regional and General Hospitals aimed to investigate the levels of business perspective, marketing perspective, nursing management quality, so to establish a relationship between business perspective and nursing management quality, as well as the relationship between marketing perspective and nursing management quality. The sample comprised 124 head nurses in Health Region 2, who completed a questionnaire divided in four sections: 1) personal information, 2) business perspective, 3) marketing perspective, and 4) nursing management quality. Content validity was confirmed by three qualified experts with IOC values ranging from 0.67 to 1. Cronbach's alpha coefficients for content reliability were found to be .97, .96, and .97, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, and path analysis.      Results indicated the following.

1. The overall business perspective of head nurses was at a high level (M = 4.26, SD = 0.47).

2. The overall marketing perspective of head nurses was at a high level (M = 4.23, SD = 0.52).

3. The quality nursing administration was at a high level (M = 4.19, SD = 0.47).

4. There was a significant positive correlation between business perspective and nursing administration quality (r = .73, p-value <.01).

5. The marketing perspective had a positive relationship with the quality of nursing administration at a high level, with statistical significance (r = .82, p-value <.01).

Therefore, public healthcare organizations can utilize the results from of this survey as an indication on how to enhance nursing management practices.
