Abstract

This descriptive research aimed to determine the older adults' decision-making criteria to get a covid-19 booster dose or not, and factors influencing their decision-making. The sample was 115 older adults in Yala municipality, recruited by stratified sampling. Instrument was a set of three questionnaires including Covid-19 perception, cues to action, enabling factors, and decision-making. The content validity index was ranged from .67-1.00. The results for Cronbach’s alpha reliability of questionnaires were .84, .84, .85, and .92, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The study results indicated that:

     1. The decision-making criteria whether to get a booster dose of Covid-19 vaccine or not, among older adults in Yala municipality, was overall at a moderate/uncertain level (M= 3.18, SD= 1.51).

     2. The factors influencing their decision-making included cues to action (Beta=.773) and perceived barriers to Covid-19 prevention (Beta= -.281). These factors could significantly explain 32.70 % of variance (adj.R2= .327, p <.001) (p-value < .001).

Therefore, health personnel involved in providing Covid-19 vaccination services to the elderly   should have the correct understanding about decision-making in elderly and promote cues to action, such as providing information to family members in order to motivate the elderly to be aware of the need for booster vaccination as well as eliminate perceived barriers to preventing COVID-19, such as having to eat separately and screening for Covid-19 in high-risk groups.
