Positive Psychological Factors and Social Support Affecting Public Health Officers’ Working Motivation Southern Border Provinces of Thailand

Abstract

This predictive study aimed to: 1) study positive psychology, social support, and work   motivation level of public health officers in the three Southern border provinces, 2) examine the relationships among positive psychology, social support, and work motivation, and 3( explore the factors affecting the work motivation. The sample was 480 public health officers in Southern border provinces. The research instrument was a 4-part questionnaire including: 1) personal data, 2) positive psychology, 3) social support, and 4) work motivation. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s Correlation and Multiple Regression. The results showed as follows.

1. Levels of factors in positive psychology, social support, and work motivationof public health officers in the three Southern border provinces were at a high level(M=3.83, SD=0.37; M=3.83 SD=0.53 and M=3.96 SD=0.37, respectively).

2. Positive psychological factors and social support were significantly correlated with work motivation at a moderate level (r=0.561 and r=0.593, respectively, p< .01).

3. Positive psychological factors and social support could predict the work motivation of health officials in the three Southern border provinces by 5% (R2=0.515).

The further studies should be conducted in a group of public health officers working in others areas for more extensive research results.
