Abstract

This study aimed to explore the perspectives of what would be necessary in terms of prevention to avoid any COVID-19 outbreak near the Northern Thailand border. Participants were 36 healthcare providers and selected by purposive sampling from the nearby district health promoting hospitals. The inclusion criteria included having experience doing COVID-19 prevention in the northern border areas of Thailand. The in-depth interviews were conducted from April to June 2021. Data analysis was performed following the thematic analysis method.

As a result, the healthcare providers’ perspective included the following: 1) the government support must cover enough means so to develop in-depth knowledge of COVID-19 infection, maintain an adequate supply level, and offer compensation to workers based on their performance; 2) health leaders should provide workers and community with a certain clarity of policy and communication, but also show clarity in regard of their management system, involving community participation. This study underlines the lack of knowledge, budget, and equipment as well as a gap in the government's management in policy and planning to prevent COVID-19 in subdistrict health promoting hospitals.
