Keywords:

This descriptive and cross-sectional research aimed to study the level of perception, social support, and new normal behaviors towards coronavirus disease (COVID-19), and then to examine the relationship between perception, social support and those behaviors among food vendors in Narathiwat province. Sample was 414 food vendors, randomly stratified. Research tool was a questionnaire divided into 4 parts: 1) general information, 2) perception of COVID-19, 3) social support for COVID-19 prevention, and 4) new normal behaviors to prevent COVID-19. Questionnaires were validated by experts, obtaining an IOC value between .67–1. Reliability of the questionnaire was tested using Cronbach's alpha coefficient divided into three parts (perception, social support, and New Normal Behaviors), yielding values of .92, .95, and .90, respectively. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Pearson's correlation.
Results showed that food vendors in Narathiwat had self-perception and social support about COVID-19 at a high level (M=3.97, SD=0.40 and M=3.65, SD=0.82, respectively), and "new normal behaviors" for prevention of COVID-19 at a moderate level (M=1.26, SD=0.25). The self-perception was not related to the new lifestyle behaviors. Nevertheless, social support was moderately positive associated with new normal behaviors for COVID-19 prevention with statistical significance (r=.363, p<.01).
Relevant agencies can utilize this result as a guideline to promote new normal behaviors to prevent COVID-19, particularly the use of the Thai Chana application for the disease surveillance and control, as well as providing social support to drive new COVID-19 prevention behaviors sustainably.
