The purpose of this two groups quasi-experimental with retrospective control study was to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical nursing practice guidelines (CNPG) for decrease back pain and prevention bleeding and hematoma formation in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma receiving TACE. The study included 304 HCC patients receiving TACE, control group of 152 patients collected retrospective data from medical record before using CNPGs between January 2015 to October 2017 and intervention group of 152 patients were a cohort study after using CNPGs between November 2017 to October 2019. Instruments for collected data were; 1) Pain Numerical Rating Scale, 2) Hematoma Formation and Bleeding Scale. The inter-rater reliability of the tools was tested yielding of 1. The hypotheses were examined by Chi-square test and Fisher’s exact test.
The results of this study showed that: 1) The level back pain in the experimental group was lower than that of the control group (p-value<0.001). 2) There is no significantly bleeding and hematoma formation in both the groups.
These findings suggest that nurses who take care patients with HCC receiving TACE could utilize this CNPGs to decrease suffering level of back pain.
