The Effectiveness of a Health Promotion Program on Daily Living Activities among Elderly with Homebound Condition

This one-group pre–post-test quasi-experimental with repeated measurements research aimed to study the effectiveness of a health promotion program on the ability to carry out daily tasks among 30 older adults with homebound conditions in a Muslim cultural context. Data were collected using the ability to carry out daily tasks or activities of daily living (ADL) assessment form before the experiment, and after receiving the program for a one-month, and then a 2-month period of time. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and repeated measures ANOVA.
The research results revealed that average score of ADL among elderly Thai Muslims with homebound condition before joining the program, immediately after joining the program, one month, and then two months later, were significantly different (p<0.05) with an increased in mean scores.
Per findings, the health promotion program was effective to improve ADL. Therefore, the program should be implemented to promote homebound elderly to have good health, and are able to do routine tasks and better self-help.
