Abstract

This cross-section study aimed to describe 1) the level of knowledge and perception about COVID-19, and new Normal behaviors for the prevention of COVID-19, as well as 2) to study the relationships between knowledge, perception and New normal behaviors for COVID-19 prevention among nursing students. Participants were 197 nursing students from the faculty of nursing at Princess of Naradhiwas University. Research tool was a questionnaire consisting of 4 parts: 1) general information, 2) knowledge about COVID-19, 3) perception about COVID-19, and 4) the "new normal behaviors" for COVID-19 prevention. Content validity of the questionnaire was verified by experts yielding IOC between .67 –1.00. Reliability of the questionnaire regarding knowledge was tested using KR-20, yielding a value of 0.80. While the questionnaire about perception and the "new normal behaviors" were tested using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, yielding values of 0.92 and 0.90, respectively. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson correlation. The research results were found the following.

1. Knowledge about COVID-19 among nursing students was at a high level (M=0.94, SD=0.12).

2. Perceptions about COVID-19 among nursing students was at the highest level (M=4.37, SD=0.47).

3. New normal behaviors for the prevention of COVID-19 among nursing students was at a high level (M=1.64, SD=0.33).

4. Knowledge and perception about COVID-19 were correlated with the New normal behaviors for the prevention of COVID-19.

The results of this research can be used as a guideline for promoting New normal behaviors for the prevention of COVID-19 among nursing students, other students, and relevant persons, especially encouraging students to use the Thai Chana application. Relationships between other factors and New normal behaviors should be explored in further study.
