The purpose of this quasi experimental research with one-group pretest-posttest design was to compare the difference of health literacy and COVID-19 prevention behaviors before and after participation a health literacy enhancement program for COVID-19 prevention. Subjects were 35 village health volunteers in Don Tako Sub-district, into Muang District of Ratchaburi Province, who received a 7-week health literacy enhancement program for COVID-19 prevention. Data were collected through a 3-part questionnaire: personal data, health literacy and COVID-19 prevention behaviors. Instruments were examined for content validity by qualified experts, yielding values of .80 and 0.86, respectively. Reliability was tested by Kuder-Richardson (KR-20), yielding values of .82 and .88, respectively. Data were then analyzed for finding frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and paired t-test. Results were as follows.1. Mean score on health literacy of experimental group, after receiving the health literacy enhancement program for COVID-19 prevention was statistically significantly higher (M=104.69, SD= 5.34) than before (M=100.89, SD=6.73) at the 0.01 level. 2. Mean score on COVID-19 prevention behaviors of experimental group, after receiving the health literacy enhancement program for COVID-19 prevention, was statistically significantly higher (M=77.11, SD=8.21) than before (M=76.60, SD=7.39) at the 0.01 level.
The findings suggest that health literacy development should be provided for village health volunteers, and expanded to other population. This program should be applied to enhance health literacy for COVID-19 prevention, among those with inadequate health literacy level, including elderly, low educational level, and low income by communicating health information in a language that is accessible and easy to understand so that they will make appropriate decision leading to good health outcome.
