This Cross-sectional study aimed to explore predicting factors of happiness among older adults in Wungchompoo community of Petchabun Province. Participants were 269 older adults who were aged 60 years and over by using stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected from August to September, 2019. Research instruments consisted of 5 parts: 1) demographic data, 2) happiness scale questionnaire, 3) Barthel activities of daily living (ADL) index questionnaire, 4) resilience quotient questionnaire, and 5) family and friends APGAR questionnaire. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficients for the 2nd-5th parts were 0.80, 0.86, 0.80, 0.80, and 0.86, respectively. Data were analyzed by using descriptive, and ordinal logistic regression.
Predicting factors of happiness among older adults included the activity of daily living (ADL) (OR=0.20, 95% CI=.01-.39), the resilience quotient (OR=0.25, 95% CI=.07-.43), and perceived social support (OR=0.22, 95% CI=.09-.36) with overall prediction power of 44.9 percent at p<.05.
These results could be applied for caring older adults in a community, so for the elderly to perform self-care and adjust themselves to have a good quality of life.
