This cross-sectional research aimed to investigate prevalence and factors related to musculoskeletal disorders among farmers in Wang Thong District of Phitsanulok Province. Data were collected from 176 farmers, using: 1) a questionnaire on musculoskeletal disorders (adapted from Standardized nordic questionnaire), 2) the risk-assessment form on musculoskeletal disorders from Department of Disease Control, and 3) the Karasek's Job Content questionnaire (Thai version). Content validity of tools were confirmed by experts. Its reliability was tested using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, obtaining a value of 0.82. The data were analyzed using Binary Logistic Regression Analysis. Results showed as follows.
1. The musculoskeletal disorders found within the past 7 days reported by the farmers were mostly at lower back, knees, and shoulders (69.30%, 53.40% and 42% respectively). In the past 12 months, musculoskeletal disorders were found including lower back, knees, and neck (68.20%, 45.50% and 38.60% respectively).
2. Factors affecting the musculoskeletal disorders were functional factors, general environmental conditions and work postures (i.e. always twisting the body, continuous bending while working) (adjOR = 0.02, 95%CI: 0.01-0.64).
Per findings, the relevant authorities should plan for prevention of musculoskeletal disorders, and set programs to promote working health behaviors among farmers, in order to reduce risk of musculoskeletal disorders.
