The aim of this quasi-experimental research study with two-group posttest only design was to study the effects of a storytelling program with a three-dimensional book on preschool children, s fear of receiving aerosol therapy. Sample was 30 preschool children aged 3 to 6 years with respiratory tract infection, admitted in pediatric unit. They were divided equally into either the control (n=15) or experimental group (n=15). Control group received routine care. Experimental group received the storytelling program with a three-dimensional book. Research instruments consisted of general information questionnaire, as well as an observation scale score on fear behavior of receiving aerosol therapy. Reliability of questionnaire was tested using Cronbach, s alpha coefficient, yielding a value of .95. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and independent t-test. Results showed as follows.
Mean score of fear behavior among preschool children in the experimental group (M=16.93, SD=1.22) was lower than in the control group (M=30.39, SD=2.49) at a statistically significant level (t(28)=19.53, p<.001).
The findings identify that the storytelling with three-dimensional book was effective to reducing the fear of receiving aerosol therapy in children. Medical Professionals should therefore apply it in order to reduce fear and increase the effectiveness of providing aerosol therapy.
