Abstract

This one-group pretest-posttest design quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effectiveness of a transformative learning program on emotional intelligence level, mindfulness level, and knowledge level of nursing students about family planning. All nursing students were attending the Family and Community Nursing I course. Sample was 30 nursing students in their second year at Boromarajonani College of Nursing in Chainat. They were selected by computerized random sampling.  Data were collected by using a questionnaire on emotional intelligence and mindfulness, and a knowledge test about family planning. Content validity and reliability were assessed. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and paired t-test. Results showed that after receiving the learning program, participants had higher emotional intelligence scores (M=3.25, SD=0.29), mindfulness scores (M=3.87, SD=0.38) and knowledge scores about family planning (M=22.87, SD=2.18) than before receiving the program, with statistical significance of .05. Per findings, this program can therefore develop the desirable characteristics of nursing students regarding emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and knowledge about family planning.
