This community-based participatory research in Thongchai sub-district of Phetchaburi province aimed to develop a program on older adults’ quality of life, and to analyze its outcomes. Participants were 52 older adults and 30 stakeholders in the community. Data were collected by using 26 WHOQOL-BREF-THAI questionnaires, and semi-structured in-depth interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed by using mean and paired t-test. Content analysis was used for analyzing qualitative data. Research findings were as follows.
1. The community-based participatory process consisted of a) planning phase, b) implementation phase, c) monitoring phase, and d) evaluation phase.
2. The outcomes of research were developed through lifelong education in the elderly school curriculum. The community chose this activity. Key success factors in developing the quality of life in older people included good leadership, a committee in elderly school coming from various sectors, and good cooperation from elderly members. There were statically significant differences between the overall mean score and 4 dimensions of improvement in the quality of life of older persons after attending the elderly school curriculum.
The research findings suggest that local government organization should improve the quality of life for the older persons in Phetchaburi province through the elderly school curriculum. The community participation should engage in all process activities.
